BIOGRAPHY
I am RTKAL, a Birmingham based artist also known as RTillery, RTizzy, RTiculate. I'm a musician but equally a music
lover and I'm all about energy, creativity, identity and eclecticism. I live to perform and express myself
artistically through a range of mediums; from recorded music, live shows, hosting raves, right through to
spoken word/theatre performance.
I've spent the last couple of years honing these skills as a sort of musical gypsy [laughs], travelling up
and down the UK, really trying to take what I do to the people. I know that the
internet is a powerful tool and it has become the main carriage of music today, but my style is to get out
there and do my thing in person, it allows that real connection with the audience. In a way, I'm trying to go
back to basics, kind of old school.
Yeah, it's easy to do it from the comfort of a room and a computer screen, I have tried it, but believe me,
there is nothing that can compare to the real thing, being there with the audience. This isn't a gimmick,
but I'm here to push boundaries and challenge what has now become the norm for delivering music and I intend very much to do this whole music thing, my way.
I have lots of plans for 2010, for me this is a new chapter in taking things forward. This year you'll see me
releasing two new CDs, an EP called "Ear Drugs" produced by Unbreakable (which my ‘Wa Gwan' video has been
taken from) and also "The Genuine RTKal" produced by Kelakovski, who is also from Birmingham.
Two EP's, two completely different vibes. I will also be continuing my tour with Skinny and The Mud Fam, then taking
a short break in autumn for a national tour as part of Decypher Collective with our grime theatre show,
8sixteen32. Not forgetting the other stuff in-between, such as the dubstep rave hosting (big up Dubmatik,
big up Goonies) and trying to stay on top of Uni work, basically expect to see me about a lot more this year.
